The City of Richmond says it will be reopening spray parks, the Steveston pool and outdoor day camps this summer – surely welcome news for kids and parents.

Registration will be required for both the outdoor pool and daycamps, according to the city. However, registration is not required for the spray parks at Steveston, King George and Burkeville.

The spray parks will reopen Saturday, July 4, and will be open seven days a week from 9 a.m. until dusk, depending on the weather. While registration is not required at the spray parks, the city says that physical distancing must be followed.

Meanwhile, registration for the Steveston Outdoor Pool opens Monday, July 6 at 10 a.m., for access starting Monday, July 13. Swimmers will be limited to 50 minutes at the pool, in order to limit capacity to ensure physical distancing.

Those using the pool are asked to enter and exit in their swimming wear if possible, to reduce crowding in change rooms and follow safety protocols.

Daycamp registration will open 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, for camps starting Monday, July 13.
The daycamps will be outdoors, and offer activities such as sports, arts, crafts, music, dance and games, as well as themed camps.

Before and after camp care will also be available for registration at some locations.

In order to reserve a spot at an outdoor summer daycamp or the Steveston pool:

• Register online at www.richmond.ca/register, using your MyRichmond account. People can set up an account in advance at myrichmond.richmond.ca

• For the Steveston pool, bookings can be done up to seven days in advance, and swimmers can book up to two hours in advance of the time of their session if space is available.

Those who attend daycamps, or use the pool or spray parks, should not have signs or symptoms of COVID-19, and must not have been in contact with some someone who has a presumptive or confirmed case of COVID-19, according to the city.

They must also not have returned from outside Canada in the previous 14 days.
